Vanessa is Deputy Chief Executive of MEI, a leading education charity working nationally with schools and colleges to provide students with the best possible maths learning experiences. Vanessa provides leadership in the development of key priorities and projects, working with strategic partners and stakeholders, including government and funders.

From 2011 to 2017 Vanessa was an Assistant Director at the Department for Education, where she worked with government ministers, advisers and senior officials to develop and deliver curriculum policy in English, maths, science and computing. From 2004 to 2011, Vanessa was a Director at Becta, the government’s agency for technology in schools and colleges. Prior to 2004, Vanessa had a long career in the university sector, heading up a social science department at Sheffield Hallam University.
